Outlaw X: Revenue Up $74K While Search Traffic Fell
← All Case Studies

Most SEO case studies are traffic stories: visitors went up, therefore things got better. This one is the opposite, and it is more useful because of it. Over the twelve months to September 2026, Outlaw X sold $626,836 online — $74,572 more than the year before — while search traffic to the site actually fell.

Revenue per visitor rose 26%. That is a conversion result, not a traffic result, and it is the number most worth understanding.

The client

Outlaw X sells binary exploding targets, ammonium nitrate, and aluminium powders and sulfur to recreational and commercial shooters across the United States, trading online at ammoniumnitrateforsale.com. It is a genuine ecommerce operation: a live catalogue, real transactions, and an average order value in the $165 range. That makes it unusual among local-service clients, and it means every optimisation has a directly measurable dollar consequence.

What the numbers actually did

All figures below come from the site's own Google Analytics 4 property, comparing the twelve months to 3 September 2026 against the twelve months before it.

MeasurePrevious 12 monthsLatest 12 monthsChange
Online revenue$552,264$626,836+$74,572 (+13.5%)

Organic sessions21,67820,159−1,519 (−7.0%)

Read the first two rows against the last three. Roughly 6,500 fewer people visited the site, and it earned $74,572 more. The store did not need a bigger audience — it needed a better one, and a shorter path from landing on a product page to completing an order.

Why we did not chase the traffic number

It would have been straightforward to report this differently. Search Console still shows the site earning 17,719 clicks from 525,371 impressions at an average position of 18 — a large, established organic footprint by any measure. Leaning on those numbers would have made a tidier headline.

But organic sessions were down 7% over the period, and organic revenue fell to $125,960. Presenting this as an organic traffic win would misrepresent what happened. What genuinely improved was the commercial performance of the traffic the site already had, and that is the finding worth passing on to other ecommerce operators.

What we worked on

  • Product-page intent. The catalogue splits across distinct buying intents — exploding targets, tannerite, ammonium nitrate, aluminium powders and sulfur. Each got its own properly targeted page rather than competing for one generic set of terms.
  • Removing friction from the store. The storefront runs on Ecwid, embedded into the site. Work concentrated on making the route from an informational page into the cart short and obvious, instead of making visitors hunt for it.
  • Compliance content that builds confidence. This is a regulated product category. Clear ammunition disclosure, disclaimer and terms pages are not box-ticking here — for a first-time buyer deciding whether a supplier is legitimate, they are part of the purchase decision.
  • Ongoing technical SEO. Continuous optimisation across the catalogue to hold and improve positions on the terms that actually convert.

What is next

The site currently runs on WordPress. A full rebuild onto WebJIVE's flat-file mini-CMS is in progress and in preview now — thirteen pages, with the existing Ecwid storefront carried across intact so the catalogue and order flow are unchanged. The goal is the performance and maintenance profile of a static site without disturbing a store that is transacting well.

We will publish the before-and-after once it launches.

The takeaway for other online stores

If traffic is flat or slipping, that is not automatically a reason to spend more on acquisition. Outlaw X earned an additional $74,572 from a smaller audience because the money went into what happened after the click. Revenue per visitor is the number to watch, and it is the one most stores never look at.
